The Tomatina party started in 1945 when a group of friends started a tomato battle in an annual parade of enormous figures with big heads. Since then it has become an internationally known traditional festival, held on the last Wednesday of August, Since 2002 it is considered a Festival of International Tourist Interest by the General Secretariat of Tourism.
The Tomatina war takes place in Buñol, a village close to the City of Valencia, from Home Youth Hostel Valencia and Home Backpackers Hostel in Valencia you can take either a Bus or train to Buñol, it is easy, cheap and fast to arrive there! The bus or train will take you directly from Valencia downtown to Buñol.
