Fallas in Valencia is the main festival of the city with a deeply rooted tradition in Valencia. Fallas Valencia 2012 takes place from 15 to 19th March. This Valencia Festival has become an important tourist attraction. Fallas are listed as Fiestas of International Tourist Interest in Spain
There is a popular version of the Fallas origin. The old story tells that they were initiated by carpenters during the night of Saint Joseph when burning into a purifying fire the old junk and surplus chips, this way cleaning their workshops at the same time as welcoming the imminent start of spring in their lives. This tradition has evolved to the present day. The art of Fallas has generated monuments larger than 30 metres in height. Today the Fallas move nearly a million tourists annually. There are 385 Fallas monuments in the city of Valencia and more than 250 in the rest of the province.
